Beach Fossil's self-titled debut album is exactly what you would expect from a band with that particular name. Yes, it's true, this is just another of many recent bands using the word "beach" in their name, however, Beach Fossils play a brand of hazy, laid back surf/pop/rock. With song titles like "Vacation" and "Lazy Day", I'm sure you can figure out the direction the album takes. The majority of the songs are slow builders as if being caught in a dream which I suppose is my real issue with this album. It never really seems to take off. The band has such potential but never really picks up the pace to keep you invested in what they're playing. Still, it is a very good summer album and I am anxious to hear what Beach Fossils turn out next.
